The Presidential Inaugural Committee is teaming up with HOPE Worldwide and the Foundation for the Preservation of the Santa Susana Mountains to clean up the Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park. We need as many helping hands as possible to join with us.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to tour much of the park as they work to remove invasive plants, maintain trails with sweeping views of the valley and nearby mountain ranges, install posts for park rules, and paint over graffiti marring park walls.
In addition, we have a special activity planned for the children (anyone aged 12 and under). They, along with their parents, will help with trash pickup as they hike along the old wagon road and experience some of the most stunning views in the park.
Cleanup will run from 8:00am-12:00 pm.
A light breakfast will be provided.
All adult volunteers (except those with children) will meet at 8:00 am at the Andora entrance to the park (next to the Oakwood Cemetery in Chatsworth). Coming from the east San Fernando Valley, you will want to take Lassen west until it ends, and then park on the street in front of the cemetery or the park entrance.
Everyone with children will meet at 8:00 am at the Lilac Lane entrance to the park (Santa Susana Pass Rd at Lilac Lane). Lilac Lane is a very small street, you cannot miss the park, you will see a brown kiosk when the area to the west opens up into a dirt parking lot. Coming from the east San Fernando Valley, you will want to exit at Rocky Peak from the 118, turn right, and then left on Lilac Lane. There is a broad dirt parking lot at the park entrance with plenty of parking. Please park in the lot, not on the street.
We request that everyone wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and either a long-sleeved shirt, or bring a jacket with long sleeves. Closed-toed shoes are a must.
