Launched in Ward 7 and focused on the communities that border the Anacostia River and the region of the Anacostia watershed, Groundwork Anacostia River DC utilizes environmental restoration goals as a vehicle for community development. GWARDCs objectives are to: Increase the capacity of residents and stakeholders to improve, care for, and promote their local environment. Reclaim vacant and derelict lands for conservation, recreation, and economic development. Reconnect residents to their neighborhoods environmental assets, including parks, open spaces, and the Anacostia River and its tributaries Volunteers will mulch pathways, spread gravel on pathways and weed overgrown areas.
